Anyone else feel that after 16 seasons, they are basically the sixth sister in the Kardashian/Jenner family? Or is it just me (I mean I fit in, my name starts with a “K”)?
In the past 12 years of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” they have (or momager, Kris Jenner has) changed the face of reality TV. The family is among some of the biggest faces (and butts) of entertainment today and have maintained the public’s interest in their lives without the slightest lull.
We have seen: family drama unfold, babies born, relationships form and crumble, businesses grow and a scandal or two. They even managed to throw a sex change in the mix (RIP “Bruiser”)!
Although some of these things may have been struggles for the family to share publicly, having their lives be so open has generated strong publicity that has always kept the Kardashian/Jenner name amid public conversation (and it all started with Kim’s sex tape).
However, with the constant changes and events going on in the family, one may ask, “how do we truly ‘keep up with the Kardashians?”
Even though the show started when I was young, I have managed to catch up and maintain my knowledge of the reality TV family with the help of the following tools.
1. Do you even follow them on social media?
Social media is the first place you should go to “Keep up with the Kardashians.” Digital platforms keep everyone up-to-date with everything going on in the world of entertainment as soon as it happens.
It can reveal jaw-dropping events in the Kardashians’/Jenners’ lives before their show gets a chance to replay it on television. Social media also serves as a place where the public can contribute to ongoing conversation about the family in a public space.
It was not the show that announced the youngest sister, Kylie Jenner’s, secret pregnancy. Our speculation about the nine-month secret was relieved through a Twitter post and a YouTube video in February 2018. It was not until season 14, which aired in March 2018, that we finally saw Jenner physically pregnant.
2. Uhm hello, obvi watch the show!
Although social media keeps you constantly updated, it does not share everything about the family.
The next best way to receive insight and knowledge about what is going on in the individual lives of the family members is to watch the show. Through our TV screens, we are given a lens into the everyday lives of the family that we may not see in the tabloids or on their social media.
We see them in their natural states, which gives the public a way to relate to such high profile stars on a personal level. Although they have enough fame and money to rule the world, they actually are normal people with real life problems.
Audiences get to see their family feuds (“Don’t be f**cking rude!”-Kim), what goes on behind the scenes of big projects they work on (like when Kendall banned Caitlyn from coming to the VS Fashion Show), or even watch the initial reactions of the sisters in the moment the drama and turmoil we follow on social media unfolds (I am still waiting for the Jordyn Woods episode…).
3. Keep up with everything entertainment news
My personal favorite is E! News because they are constantly keeping the public in the loop about what is going on in the world of entertainment and pop-culture every second of the day. And, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” aires on their network.
I am constantly getting notifications from their app, or scrolling through their website. I am always updated with their content through their social media platforms as well. I am sure you’ve noticed that a lot of the media I use for my posts come from E! News.
It was through an E! notification that I found out about Tristan Thompson cheating on Khloe while pregnant. It was also through E! that I was first informed about him allegedly cheating AGAIN with Kylie’s BFF, Jordyn Woods, while I was sitting on the couch one day (I still cannot believe that had happened).
Regardless of how you keep up with the Kardashians, it is hard not to hear what is going on in their lives because their presence in media and in pop-culture is so strong. Their name will never die down because they are always finding ways to keep the public interested (that could be because they have a secret weapon: momager, Kris Jenner).
